The Berlin-based Swiss singer, film composer and multi-instrumentalist Sophie Hunger has released two new singles ‘Rote Beeten Aus Arsen’ and the subject of our List Pick ‘Security Check’. Both tracks have been produced by none other than Speedy Wunderground’s Dan Carey, further bringing to life the magnetic quality of Hunger’s prismic sound. Considering ‘Security Check’, it’s built on a mixture of digital and organic staccato percussion, while the delicacy of those words “it’s too soon” rebel against the urgency of the track’s instrumentation. The recurrent piano melody along with the beats and Hunger’s intimate voice creates an unbroken chain throughout the song, that is until we reach the impressively cinematic outro. The swirling synths and layered sounds gently fade away into obscurity, leaving the listener alone with their thoughts in the wake of this pensive project. - Hannah Thacker
